Carlisle's in the News Media: As the area's leading wedding fashion store, from time to time we find ourselves the subject of a story in the print or broadcast media, such as: WTAE TV- June 27, 2003- Reporter Yvonne Zanos toured the Big Day Wedding Center and Carlisle's Bridal Salon as part of a news feature focusing on helpful ideas for area brides. The uniqueness of our convenient one-stop wedding shopping concept was of special interest to Ms. Zanos.  Pittsburgh Magazine's Spring 2002 Wedding Issue- The editorial article in this classy publication included several images of brides wearing exclusive wedding gowns from Carlisle's, including one style from Vera Wang, and another designed by Van Lear. Wedding Trends & News- a national trade publication recognized Carlisle's in their January 2002 article entitled, "A Look at the Current Market Through the Eyes of Experts." As acknowledged by WTN, Carlisle's holds "the distinction of being the oldest family-operated gown shop in the country." Grand Opening of the Big Day Wedding & Event Center- Three area TV stations (KDKA, WPXI, FOX) and various local newspapers covered the Grand Opening of Carlisle's new home in the Strip District on December 27, 2001. The Big Day Wedding & Event Center is the first store of its kind in the Pittsburgh area... a wedding mini-mall where brides can visit a wide variety of wedding professionals under one roof. To learn more about the services available at this new center, visit our Tour page, or our Links page.  Emcee, Blaine Workman, Vice President of Carlisle's, welcomes a crowd of guests and media representatives to the Grand Opening (below left), and Big Day owner, Sal Richetti, cuts the ribbon with Pittsburgh Mayor, Tom Murphy, and City Councilman, Sala Udin (below right).  Pittsburgh Post-Gazette- Carlisle's upcoming move was the subject of a story written by Teresa F. Lindeman on Friday August 31, 2001. "America's oldest bridal salon... is picking up its skirts and heading to the Strip District", wrote Ms. Lindeman. The story generated a wave of response, as other media outlets recognized the "news value" of Carlisle's relocation from our landmark location on East Ohio Street. Following the Post-Gazette article, KDKA-TV reporter Yvonne Zanos, and Fox 53-TV reporter Cindy McGrath also reported on the upcoming move and the exciting new Big Day Wedding Center, soon to open in the Strip, and to serve as Carlisle's new home. Pittsburgh Post-Gazette- On Sunday August 6, 2000, Fashion Editor, LaMont Jones, published a piece about a return to romanticism and tradition in his "Guides for Brides." We would like to thank Mr. Jones for consulting us about this piece, and appreciate his insights for local brides. North Side Story- The re-airing of this popular WQED video produced by the outstanding local historian and filmmaker, Rick Sebak, continues to solicit comments from our shoppers. Not only are they intrigued by the rich traditions and colorful flavor of the communities that make up the North Side of Pittsburgh, but they have been especially kind in their comments about our (Carlisle's) brief segment in this documentary film. For our part, we appreciate the way that Mr. Sebak brought local history to life, including the history of our store. Associated Press feature story. In October, 1998, AP writer, Niki Kapsambelis, ran a story about Carlisle's over the AP wire service. Ms. Kapsambelis found it interesting that Pittsburgh was home to America's oldest bridal store, and set out to tell our story. Little did we suspect that newspapers all over the country would also find it interesting, and decide to publish this human interest story.  We want to thank all of other friends, business associates and former customers who took the time to cut out the Carlisle's story in their local papers and send it along to us. To date, we've received newspapers from as far away as Hawaii that have printed Ms. Kapsambelis' piece on Carlisle's.
